Am I Suitable For Fat Transfer?

Many of our patients come to us for fat transfer to correct existing dents, lumps or uneven skin after accidents or surgery. We also have patients who come to us to correct existing skin defects but most commonly, our patients have just undergone cosmetic procedures (laser liposuction, Vaser liposuction and gynaecomastia surgery) and would like dents or lumps to be corrected. We have also used fat injection techniques to correct dents on breasts after cancer surgery, as well as to restore symmetry. Fat transfer can only be performed if you have an area from which enough fat can be taken to fill the defect. Please note if you lose weight after the procedure, the fat will diminish alongside your weight loss

Patients are assesed on an individual basis in order to create a tailored care package personalised to the individual, this involves checking your medical and psychological health. Our dedicated team will ensure that prior to your decision, you meet with a Consultant Plastic Surgeon to talk through your specific needs, questions and queries.

The Fat Transfer Procedure

Fat transfer is performed on an outpatient basis. Both the area from which the fat is taken and the treatment site are anesthetized with a local anesthetic. Using a small needle, fat is removed from an area of the body where it is tightly packed, such as the abdomen or the buttocks. Once removed, the fat is processed to remove excess fluids and then re-injected just under the skin using another needle.

FAQ on Thigh Lift Surgery

Depending on the type of work, you can usually return to work the next day. *Individual results may vary.
It's common after a surgical fat transfer to have: significant bruising and swelling. temporary numbness.
Your body accepts the transferred fat as an integral part of you. With fat transfer the fat immediately anchors to the surrounding tissues. Once it has a blood supply, the fat is extremely stable.
Fat transfer is different because the cells are able to live and thrive in their new environment, offering rejuvenation that is essentially permanent. However, this doesn’t mean that all the fat will survive or the same level of rejuvenation will be maintained forever
When the procedure is performed, the plastic surgeon will slightly overfill the treated area. This is because not all of the fat transferred to the face will survive permanently. Some of the cells will die within the first 6 months, which will make the volume levels dip somewhat. Once the six month mark has passed, however, the remaining cells should be permanently established

The recovery period varies from person to person, but for most patients, it takes 2 to 4 weeks. In the first few days (where you might not be able to use both arms fully), we recommend that you have a family member or close friend available to help you while you recover.
