nverted nipple correction is a surgical procedure that involves correcting the look of a nipple that appears to be sunken into the breasts or lies flat on the breast’s surface. Although inverted nipples often occur as a result of pregnancy and/or breastfeeding, they can be a source of self-consciousness, particularly during intimate moments.
Our experienced surgeons specialise in inverted nipple correction, so you’ll achieve your desired results. In some cases the surgeon may recommend further investigations to be carried out to determine the cause of the inverted nipple before carrying out surgery.
Our Consultant Plastic Surgeons are members of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) and all have a variety of professional qualifications.
The ideal candidate is a woman who is unhappy with the appearance of her nipple(s). The candidate should also be in excellent health and a non-smoker, as this is a major surgery. You should also be psychologically strong, as we want to ensure you’ll truly enjoy the results of your surgical procedure.
You’ll meet with your plastic surgeon to determine your suitability before undergoing an inverted nipple surgery.
Your consultation with your surgeon will usually be at Aset Hospital Surgery Centre, and will last approximately one hour. During your initial consultation, your surgeon will provide a full assessment and discuss your desires and requirements. You will be able to get answers to all of your questions and concerns about a breast reduction, and your consultation will determine the best suited breast augmentation procedure for you, tailored to your individual needs.
If you’re a smoker, we require that you stop smoking for at least two months before your surgical procedure. This is because smoking can increase your risks for developing healing problems, as well as potentially create dangerous circulation problems during the surgery.
We also ask patients to refrain from taking oral contraceptives, over-the-counter pain medications, and herbal medicines, as these can thin the blood and interfere with the healing process.
You will be required to perform a medical exam at a pre-op clinic, where tests will be carried out to ensure you are healthy and safe during your surgical procedure.
Inverted nipple correction is usually performed under local anaesthesia; this would be a day case procedure
If you’re just undergoing inverted nipple correction, the surgical incisions will be limited to the areolas. If your surgery is being combined with other breast procedures, the incisions could be placed underneath the nipple.
Patients can expect some swelling, bruising, and tenderness; this is typical of most inverted nipple correction surgeries. Potential risks of the surgery include infection, loss of sensation, or a noticeable scar along the areolas.

After the nipple reduction surgery, we will arrange appointments for follow-up examinations with your surgeon to monitor your progress and check that you are recovering well (it usually takes 3-4 weeks to recover and heal from this procedure).
2 weeks after surgery, one of our trained staff will see you and check your wounds. Your surgeon will see you after 6 weeks for a follow-up and again after that until you are fully recovered. These follow-ups are standard and will be provided at no extra cost.
In the unlikely event of a problem, we will make arrangements for you to be seen by trained staff and (if needed), by the surgeon who performed the procedure.
As all our surgeons live and work in the local area, it is possible to see your surgeon at relatively short notice. Our surgeons don’t leave the country or the local area after performing the surgery. If on a rare occasion, a surgeon leaves the local area for other commitments, we will ensure that there will always be another trained plastic surgeon from our team available to provide you with comprehensive care.
In the unlikely event of a complication directly related to your surgery, we will provide or arrange further surgery and/or treatment at no extra cost for up to 1 year.
