Hyperhidrosis Treatments

Excess sweating of axilla (armpit) can cause embarrassment and distress to unfortunate patients. Although hyperhidrosis does not have a direct serious effect on the patient’s health, it can be disabling and interferes with normal routine daily life. Hyperhidrosis treatments include Antiperspirant, medications and Botox have been used to control excess sweating. However, all these options provide partial and temporary improvement. Surgical options include division of the nerves to sweat glands (sympathectomy). It is a complex surgery with moderate success and high risks.

Precision Tx Laser Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Laser has been used successfully to deliver safe energy to manipulate tissue underneath the skin (Cellulaze andSmartLipo). The new Precision Tx laser provides an effective and safe treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis. The clinical results from USA have shown very promising result with minimal risks. Mr Shaaban introduced the new technique to UK when he performed the first case of Precision Tx case in January 2013.

The Procedure

The Precision Tx laser procedure is a minimally-invasive surgery which is performed under local anaesthesia as walk-in, walk-out office procedure. The iodine-starch test is performed to identify the exact area of treatment in each axilla. The treated area is photographed and marked. A local anaesthesia infiltrate is injected through two to three small incisions. Once the area is numb, a small laser probe is introduced under the skin through the same incisions. The laser energy is delivered to coagulate the sweat gland below the skin. The new wavelength (1440nm laser) is highly absorbed by the tissue to heat the tissue. The side-firing system makes the treatment safer by directing the laser towards the sweat glands.

What to expect

Mild discomfort, swelling and bruising may develop after treatment but all settle within few days. Temporary loss or altered sensation has been reported but it recovers within few weeks. Risk of infection is less common with this procedure. If it happens a course of antibiotic can settle it down.

Patient expects to notice significant reduction of sweating three to four weeks after surgery.
